CHAPTER 1

The laser volley lit up the hill ruby red allowing Leeran to see his foe as a beam hit the smaller bot in the head. Then his visual went out for the last time.

Leeran's bot rolled to a stop at the bottom of the hill. He lay there for a few minutes trying to bring his failing systems back under control and waiting blindly for the killing blow to fall. Finally he was forced to escape back to his body.

It took a few minutes for Leeran to regain consciousness. When he came to he was assaulted by a sharp pain in his left leg. Leeran quickly went through his mental exercises to move the pain to his subconscious. He then hit the release button on the stasis tube door. The door lurched partially open and then jammed. He could see flames licking the outside of the tube. His bot must have exploded.

Leeran looked down at his leg. A piece of metal had pierced the tube and pinned his leg. Fear began to flood his mind. "I'm not going anywhere quickly and I couldn't have destroyed that bot with one laser blast. Even the proximity shields on a small bot would have deflected most of the beam. He should be here any second to destroy this tube. Where is he!?"

Leeran's mental training began to assert itself again. "Fear is a killer." Leeran began going through his calming exercises. Soon he was calm enough to deal with his situation. He reached above his head and removed a small hand laser. "A fully charged hand laser has only ten charges. Use them wisely." He took careful aim and fired cutting the piece of metal piercing his leg. The conducted heat seared into his leg almost causing him to loose consciousness and control
