More Roller stuff
Wonder how much work it would take to add a Public/Private flag to the website, and/or to individual blogentries. My Mom would like to have a "journal" but she's concerned about privacy. So far I don't have any good options for her.

Something I've done before is actually set up a 3-way option:
Public: anyone can view it
Protected: visitor must enter a password to view protected entries (it remembers it for the whole visit)
Private: only the creator can view it. ( Aug 25 2002, 04:48:55 PM ) Roller Permalink [Trackback]

Notes to self (continued)
I forgot to include my HoneyPot project. It's long past time I made a nice page for this and packaged it for download. Of course, I've been waiting for myself to get around to making it "real", by logging violators to a database and creating an admin interface (to forgive violators)...

Theme trouble? I fixed a problem I found in the x2 theme (it has a > immediately after the top head), and tried to change the Bookmarks shown on the right column. But my changes have yet to show up, and I've disabled caching...

I've even copy-pasted a whole new theme (the currency one) instead, but that change has yet to show up as well.

Let the bragging begin! Firstly, I've had my name dropped by Mike Cannon-Brookes, no less. Even though I've sent him a couple emails, I didn't expect that any of them would be published, even in part.

Vanity starts at home I've finally taken the big step of deploying Roller on my personal site. We'll see how this holds up, as it is using HSQLDB in-memory.

Note to self...
1) I really need to spend the time to repackage Sniffer. The current download jar is ancient. But I haven't put any time into it in eons.

2) Thought of any interesting way to get the Referrer tracking that Dave has on his wishlist for Roller. It should be actually be done as a seperate project, akin to the Log Analyzer I've batted around for some time now: a servlet filter that logs the requests to a db.

3) The package would have a report tool built in as well (using Bayard's LogView), but then Roller could have it's own tool to build the Referrer Tracking bit.

4) Okay, entering all those Links got me onto another idea (someone has got to have done this) for Roller: A way to insert an href tag into the blog I'm typing now. This could be some fancy javascript using select-lists or hyperlinks. Or perhaps just some other notation. For example: if I enter #Henri Bayard#Bayard's# then Roller will lookup a Bookmark named "Henri Bayard" and substitute <a href="http://orinoco.flamefew.net/bayard/"> for #Henri Bayard# and replace the ending # with </a>. Is this cool, or has it all been done before?

5) Fun spliff to myself: Since I can upload images to Roller now, I can show you a pretty picture. And once I upgrade Roller again, I won't have to figure out the damn resource url myself! as Macros now knows how to do it.

Fight the good fight
Completely unrelated to me (damn), or Java, or web development. But very interesting, and better yet, promising: A Plan For Spam

The Admin Interface Now that I'm using it, I think I'll need to find a way to improve the admin interface (for posting, editing settings, whatever).

I don't have any ideas yet, but this will be on my watch list going forward.
