More Nanning

Jon, sorry I missed that Nanning has runtime attributes. commons-attributes sounds cool, I haven't caught any posts on it or seen any code checked in, though. Waiting with baited breath. I have got to find some time to investigate Nanning, but the Roller users have spoken. ( Nov 13 2002, 10:21:47 PM ) Technology Permalink Comments [1] [Trackback]

Some People

Some People

Spike's GeekBlog:

I"VE GIVEN UP HERE this roller thing is interesting, feature rich but still lacking in onet hing i want. Comments. so i've packed up my blog and gone home. as cartman sez: Screw you guys, i'm a goin home. my new geek blog is here.

I guess he feels he is important enough to need comments. If he really cared about it he would pay attention to the Roller developers list and see that comments will be in the next release. Good riddance.[Anthony Eden]

The ironic thing is, I don't see anything worth commenting on. Oh, and Spike also whines that he cannot change the template. Well, he could do it manually, or he could wait for it. Oh, and Spell Checking is coming soon too. ( Nov 13 2002, 10:11:27 PM ) Roller Permalink [Trackback] [Link]

Spell Checker in progress

I'm still working on the spell checker, but I'm getting closer to done. I've added a "Spell Check" button to the weblog editor, which takes you to this screen. The questionable words are turned into select-lists for you to choose from. Or you can scroll down and edit the text directly after having seen what Jazzy flagged as suspicious.

Its still a bit awkward, and Jazzy's choices aren't the cleanest... But it's better than nothing, and leaves room for improvement ;-)

Runtime attributes and interceptors

Now I can add "@attributes readonly" to my methods (or to the class), and have several interceptors use that info to change their behaviour, or the framework can even bypass them entirely quite easily. Neat![Rickard Oberg]

I really wish I had the time to work on Nanning. With the XRAI stuff that Ara recently checked in it should be entirely possible to add Rickard's latest "innovation" to Nanning. ( Nov 13 2002, 09:05:31 AM ) Technology Permalink [Trackback] [Link]

What's a Snook? he asked
I dunno. Matt is playing with some new contact management software. It autogenerated an email which sounded fishy to me. I sent Matt an email asking if it was for real (sounds like some automated sucker bait in the email), or if it was a "snook". Whatever, it was the only word I could think of at the time, but I think it'll be a permanent addition to my vocabulary. It means "something questionable or unsure", or so I'm guessing. Snook is itself snook. ( Nov 12 2002, 04:01:54 PM ) Entertainment Permalink [Trackback]

Comments "bug"
Greg has noticed that the new Comments feature doesn't "allow" HTML, nor does it autoformat line breaks (insert a break for each carriage-return). The first is because Struts' bean:write automatically escapes HTML. I kinda like this, kinda don't. I realize there are good security reasons to escape HTML (<script>), but I'm too lazy to bother with just the dangerous ones.

Question: should I turn off the HTML escaping & add the autoformat? Or should I leave off the autoformat and allow HTML? Or should I allow HTML *and* do the autoformatting? Can someone think of a couple config parameters for this, so I can add them to RollerConfig and the Admin can decide?

Later: I guess two booleans, autoformatComments and escapeCommentHtml, would work fine. The display could key off these, and the admin could have it however he or she liked it. ( Nov 12 2002, 01:24:35 PM ) Roller Permalink Comments [6] [Trackback] [Link]

Fear NewsMonster
Thanks to Russell's heads-up, I tried installing NewsMonster, but it must have failed somewhere (did the Mozilla install). I also tried the Java install. Neither works, and now I get weird "cannot find a file" messages everytime I open a windo in Moz (like when I came to enter this comment).

I tried subscribing to the NewsMonster mailing list to look for help (as in, uninstalling the non-existant plugin), but that failed ... User unknown. And Kevin hasn't got a mailing list archive running on peerfear either. I'm screwed. Guess I could uninstall Moz and reinstall, but what a pain.
